This page is about the character. For the game see Obelix (1983).
Obelix (French: Obélix) is the second protagonist of the Asterix games and overall franchise. He forms a duo with his best friend Asterix, both characters are playable in various games. He owns a small dog called Dogmatix. He has permanent super-strength and insatiable appetite as a result of falling into a cauldron of magic potion when he was a child, and often complains about not being allowed to drink any more of it (which, according to Getafix, could have dangerous consequences). His favourite activities are carving menhirs, hunting boars and fighting Romans. He has a crush on Panacea. Obelix is obviously overweight and he hates when people point it out. Some games where Obelix is a playable character contain tight spaces where he cannot get through due to his size, but Asterix can.
Asterix (1983)[]

Obelix is represented with a minimalistic sprite of his head. The player starts controlling him instead of Asterix after they reach 32,500 points. At this point the game speed is increased significantly. This is called Obelix Wave.
Obelix[]

Obelix has a fullbody sprite for the first time in the game named after him. He walks left and right by himself, carrying a menhir on his back. He will drop it at the player's order. The menhir can only crush Romans if they have been stunned and turned white by Asterix. It can also hit Asterix himself, which results in losing a life.
Sometimes Obelix changes to Getafix for a short time, who automatically drops a gourd of magic potion.
Asterix (1991)[]
Obelix can not only beat up enemies but also smash blocks which are often in the way. He can collect menhirs and throw them, which deal damage and break into pieces upon landing.
Asterix: Caesar’s Challenge[]
Obelix is one of the characters the player can pick to move around the board. His marker on the board is blue.
While the other protagonists drink magic potion to break out of prison and get more questions, he eats roast boar instead.
Asterix: The Gallic War[]
Some platforming levels use Obelix as the playable character. Obelix can collect cauldrons to restore health.
The player also controls Obelix in the minigames Throw a Roman and Bowl a Roman.
Asterix: Mega Madness[]
Obelix is one of the 4 characters competing against each other. The player can choose to play as Obelix against everyone else. Otherwise, Obelix becomes one of the opponents.
Obelix's position on the map is marked with a green arrow.
Asterix & Obelix XXL[]
Obelix's unique abilities are moving giant marble blocks and logs, moving cannons, dragging cable cars and jumping on special trampolines.
Obelix's default outfit is an altered version of his comic outfit. The player can unlock up to 3 extra outfits for Obelix: legionary uniform, swimsuit and pirate costume.
Asterix & Obelix XXL 2: Mission Las Vegum[]
Obelix's unique abilities are rotating cannons, dragging cable cars and smashing certain doors.
Obelix's default outfit is an altered version of his comic outfit, but it is not the same as the Asterix & Obelix XXL outfit.
In the remastered version of the game, the player can switch between the original outfit and the new "classic" outfit which is based on comics. When choosing the "classic" outfit, Obelix's face takes a neutral expression. He also has irises which change color depending on the selected outfit: they are brown when he wears the original outfit, and they are blue when he wears the "classic" outfit.
Asterix at the Olympic Games[]
Obelix's only unique abilities are dragging cable cars and ordering Dogmatix to attack Romans, with a cooldown. If he grabs a ledge, he will break it (which will respawn in a few seconds). If he attempts to use a pulling mechanism he will damage it and it will have to be repaired.
In the Olympic Mode, Obelix is a playable character available from the start, along with Asterix.
Obelix's outfit is the same as in Asterix & Obelix XXL 2. In the Xbox 360 version his helmet horns are shortened.
Asterix Brain Trainer[]
Obelix offers 3 activities, one arithmetic and two with mazes.
The player needs to navigate him through the mazes while having as little encounters as possible.
Asterix: These Romans are Crazy![]
Obelix is one of the 4 characters that can be played as on the board.
There are many minigames that either allow controlling Obelix or revolve around his interests. The game is also named after his catchphrase.
Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods[]
The player controls Obelix in multiple minigames, and he has the most minigames connected to him out of all villagers.
Asterix and Friends[]
Obelix can be sent to fight Romans alone and he is guaranteed to win, but the player needs to complete a set of tasks named Visitor Attraction to be able to use him again. Due to 100% chance of victory, Obelix cannot be equipped with any items. He also cannot participate in village brawls.
The player can bring Obelix dishes they won in events and exchange them for wreaths.
Asterix & Obelix XXL 3: The Crystal Menhir[]
Obelix has only 2 unique abilities on his own: hitting Romans by dash-jumping into them and ordering Dogmatix to attack Romans with a cooldown. But as the missing shards are found and the Crystal Menhir's ice, fire and magnetic powers are restored, Obelix can use the Menhir to interact with the environment or make battles easier.
Obelix's default outfit is comic-styled. His design is very similar to the "classic" design in Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 remaster, but his pants are more detailed. The player cannot unlock any different outfits during gameplay, however the Collector's Edition of the game contains legionary and viking outfits, which can be selected in the pause menu, or they can be bought separately.
